Bible Story: Healing the Deaf and Mute Man (Mark 7:32-37)
Lesson Aim: To hear the salvation message, to be invited to respond to it, and to share it with others.
Intro: In this passage, you see people bringing the deaf and mute man to see Jesus and to be healed. Jesus took the man away from the crowd because Jesus wanted to talk alone with him. Sometimes we focus so much on something that it crowds our life. Even good things like activities, games, toys, television, sports, schoolwork, and music can distract us like a busy crowd. Are there things making your life busy or crowded? What are some things that your heart is more focused on that Jesus? Imagine that Jesus came and took you aside to spend time with you. What do you think He would say to you? What would you say to Him?
What did Jesus do to heal the man? (He put his fingers into the man's ears. He spit and touched the
man's tongue. He looked up to heaven and said, “Ephphatha!”) "Ephphatha!" means “be opened.”
Jesus opens our ears so we can hear what He wants us to do. He heals our tongue so we can
speak clearly when we tell others about Him. He opens our hearts to believe in Him.
Jesus healed the man’s ears and tongue.
In what other ways can Jesus heal us? Jesus can heal us from sickness, loneliness, worrying, and from habits of sinning. Jesus can also heal our hearts from being separated from God.
